The
transom, showing the charring from the fire. Fire reportedly came
out through the various through hull fittings in the counter, the fuel
tank vent, and around the rudderpost as well, which resulted in the
charring seen. |
Another
view of the same, except at closer range. The gelcoat and paint is
badly checked and cracked, but the hull is generally sound despite
itself. |
A
full-on view of the transom, now showing the more badly damaged
starboard side. The fire was more intense here, and burned away
more of the paint and gelcoat, and even the outer layers of mat in the
laminate. |
This
photo of the transom shows the fuel tank vent placement. The
starboard side was more badly damaged because the tank vent, which shot
flames up to 30' out according to the owner (who witnessed the event),
is closer. He showed me one photo, taken from some distance, that
showed the fire in progress. |
|
More
of the starboard side. This area is badly damaged, but the
underlying laminate is still sound. |
|
The
starboard quarter, and the worst damage on the outside of the
hull. You can see the mat hanging down loosely, and some areas
where the owner ground into the hull as an exploratory measure. |

A
close-up view of the starboard quarter, showing the texture of the
remaining paint and gelcoat, the loose and charred mat, and the sound
fiberglass beneath the ground areas. |

A
closer view of the port quarter, showing the texture of the surface. |
The
port quarter, again. Repairs to the exterior of the hull would
appear to require mostly cosmetic work, albeit plenty of it.
Depending on the depth of the cracks and other damage, some external
relaminating could be required. |

A view taken from
the ladder on the other boat next door, showing the deck for the first
time.
